Fury Fall to Sockers in Shootout

November 28, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, fell to the San Diego Sockers in a shootout Saturday afternoon at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The two teams played to a 7-7 tie in regulation, and played 10 minutes of overtime without deciding a winner, forcing the best-of-three player shootout. Kraig Chiles and Matt Clare scored in the shootout, while Ontario went 0-for-2 in the shootout. It was the Fury's first-ever game to be decided in the shootout.

Ontario held a 6-3 lead after three quarters, but the Sockers scored the first four goals of the final 15 minutes, as four different Sockers' players scored. Chiles assisted on two of the goals, while Eddie Velez had a goal and assist in the flurry.

But the Fury tied the game with the extra attacker on the field. While both teams had a player in the penalty box, Kiley Couch became Ontario's fifth attacker, and he set up Mauricio Salles for the tying goal. It was Salles' second goal of the game.

Ontario had a 4-3 lead at halftime, as Tino Nunez scored with three seconds left. And Ontario built on the lead in the third, with Tiguinho and Juan Topete (also with two goals) scored in the third.

Both goalies were strong, as they had been in last Saturday's meeting between the two teams in San Diego. Chris Toth got the win this time, stopping 11 Ontario shots, while Ontario's Sanaldo stopped 19 of the 26 shots he faced.

Ontario returns to action at Citizens Business Bank Arena again at 7 p.m. Friday against the Las Vegas Legends. Tickets, starting at $10, are available at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office or online at AXS.com.
