Fury Edge River Otters 4-3

February 6, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

The Missouri River Otters blew a first-period lead for the first time all season, losing 4-3 to the Muskegon Fury Sunday afternoon at the Family Arena.

Ryan Johnson picked up his first point as a River Otter thirteen seconds into the opening period. He picked up the puck in the Fury zone and fed a terrific pass to Charlie Blyth, who buried the puck behind goaltender Clayton Pool.

Muskegon scored the only two goals in the second period. The first came on a breakaway by Bill Zalba, and the second was a blistering one-timer from Kevin Haupt. Barret Jackman got into his first fight as a River Otter in the second period, pummeling Jason Lawmaster with right-hand punches.

Brant Blackned scored on a power-play breakaway to give the Fury a 3-1 lead early in the third period, but Lars Pettersen came right back with a top-shelf wrister to pull the River Otters to within one goal. Five minutes later B.J. Gaustad converted on another breakaway for Muskegon to give them a two-goal lead. But the River Otters again got within one goal on a great wrist-shot from Jim Montgomery, his 11th goal of the season. That was as close as Missouri got, however, and the Fury came away with the 4-3 victory. Pool made 29 saves for the victory, while Jason Tapp made 20 saves in the defeat.

The River Otters host the Quad City Mallards Wednesday night at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 7:05, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the B2 Webcast at www.riverotters.com.
