Elmira Jackals News Release
Danbury, CT - The Danbury Trashers steamrolled the Elmira Jackals on their way to a 6-2 victory Saturday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.
With special teams a-blazing, it did not take long for the home side the jump out front. Danbury scored their first of two short-handed goals on the night at 3:15 when Bruce Richardson poked a rebound from Mike Bayrack's initial shot through the legs of Greg Hewitt for a 1-0 Trashers lead. Elmira answered with a vengeance; Nathan Gillies lifted a rebound up over the fallen Ryan McIntosh at 4:31 for his 10th goal of the season, a power play goal assisted by Jamie Thompson and Corey Foster. 16 seconds later it was 2-1 Jackals when Carl Drakensjo tipped home a Dean Jackson shot at 4:47; Derek Campbell, who was re-assigned from Binghamton prior to the game, also assisted on the goal. Regardless of Elmira's quick strikes, that would be the last Jackals offense to make the score sheet. Danbury would add their second short-handed goal of the period at 16:17 by way of a J.F. David goal to tie the game at two.
In the second period Danbury took the lead for good. The Trashers regained the lead at 7:30 with a power play goal by Richardson, his second goal of the game. David also scored his second of the night at 11:01 of the period to make it 4-2 Danbury after two.
The garbage men sent this game to the printers with two more goals in the third period from Alex Goupil and newcomer John Mirasty to complete the 6-2 romp.
Ryan McIntosh recovered from his shaky start to the game to pick up the win in his Danbury debut, making 27 saves on 29 Jackals shots. Greg Hewitt took the loss, stopping 35-of-41 in goal for the Jackals.
The Jackals are back in action for two games in Richmond, VA against the Richmond Riverdogs. They will drop the puck at 7:35 pm both Friday and Saturday night at the Richmond Coliseum. Elmira will then return home Friday, February 18th as they host the Adirondack Frostbite for a 7:30 pm contest at the First Arena.
