
Fury Drop Season Opener to San Diego

(SAN DIEGO, California) - Former Ontario Fury forward Leonardo de Oliveira scored a pair of goals and an assist helping the San Diego Sockers to a 4-2 win over the Fury on Friday night at Pechanga Arena. The Fury (0-1) now travel to the Pacific Northwest to face the Tacoma Stars on Sunday evening in Kent, WA.
Oliveira opened the scoring for San Diego with only 16 seconds left in the first quarter for the 1-0 lead.
The second quarter saw three more goals, all for the Sockers, as they took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. Goals were scored by Slavisa Ubiparipovic at 7:10, Brian Farber at 8:24 and Oliveira again with just 23 seconds remaining.
After a scoreless third quarter the Fury scored two goals late in the fourth. Goals were scored by Franck Tayou at 6:10 and Evan McNeley with just over a minute remaining in the game.
No time to rest as next up is the Tacoma Stars on Sunday. Game time is set for 5:05pm at accesso ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington and the game will be shown live on MASL.tv.
This will be the first of four regular season meetings between the two rivals. The Fury (0-1) will be looking to rebound after a 4-2 loss to the San Diego Sockers on Friday in San Diego. Meanwhile the Stars (1-1) are looking to keep their winning ways going after a 5-4 overtime win vs Turlock Cal Express in their previous game. Last year the teams played 5 times and the Fury won the season series 3-2.
This will be the second of two games on the road this weekend for the Fury. Next Friday night December 20th the Fury will take on the same Tacoma Stars at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California for their home opener kicking off at 7pm.
