Fury Can't Stop Sockers in Second Half, Fall 9-5

February 13, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, were defeated by the visiting San Diego Sockers 9-5 in the lone Major Soccer Arena League match up on Thursday night. With the win, the Sockers have clinched the Pacific Division, while the Fury are locked into the second position in the division, and will face Las Vegas in the first round of the playoffs.

The Sockers went up by three goals in the first quarter and were on their way to holding the Fury without a goal until Tino Nunez blasted a shot past Sockers' goalkeeper Chris Toth with 1:16 remaining.

The Fury rallied in the second quarter, scoring twice to tie the game. Juan Topete gave the Fury their second goal of the night and with 1:45 remaining, Oliver Dyson scored to tie up the game at the intermission.

The Fury looked to have taken a momentum shift when Warren Ukah tapped in a deflected Tiguinho shot to open the scoring in the second half, but could not hold off the Sockers from there. San Diego scored four straight goals to end the third quarter by a score of 7-4.

The fourth quarter was a slow one with the first goal coming at the 6:23 mark. The Fury then went to Juan Gonzalez as an extra attacker and promptly answered the call by putting the Fury back to within three. But that was as close as they would get, as San Diego scored once more into an empty net to seal the game.

The Fury now have a nine-day break before heading down to San Diego for the regular season finale on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Fury return home on Sunday, March 1 at 3 p.m. for the first-ever playoff appearance against the Las Vegas Legends. The playoff winner will advance to face the Sockers in San Diego.

Tickets for the playoff game are now on sale. For more information email info@ontariofury.com or call (909) 457-0252.
