Kansas City Comets News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Mo (February 13, 2015) - The Major Arena Soccer League Central Division Champions Missouri Comets (18-0) will host the Tulsa Revolution (2-14) with their sights set on becoming Kansas City's winningest professional team in history with nineteen consecutive wins. In the 95/96 NPSL season, the KC Attack started off their season with an 18-0 record before losing their first match to the Cleveland Crunch.
The Valentine's Day match will also feature the annual T.A.K.E. Foundation night at the Independence Events Center where the players' pink jerseys will be auctioned throughout the first three quarters of the game.
Both teams will meet for the third time this season. On December 6, the Comets left the Cox Business Center with a 15-5 victory before playing game two at the Independence Events Center on January 10 where the Revolution fell 18-2.
Last weekend, league leader Leo Gibson (36 goals and 37 assists) was named Borden Man of the Match after a seven-point performance (three goals and four assists) against the St. Louis Ambush. Two days later he added five more points at Hartman Arena, which earned him MASL Team of the Week honors for the fourth time this season.
Head coach Vlatko Andonovski's team will be without injuries after Stefan Stokic recovered from an abdominal strain. In addition, midfielder Cody Hoffman is expected to suit up and make his professional debut.
The Tulsa Revolution are led by midfielder Lucas Bunster Almeida who totals 29 points with 14 goals and 15 assists. Head coach Alex Miranda's team also features three players from the Kansas City area: Justin Hershey (Overland Park, KS), Nick McDonald (Leawood, KS) and Andrew Griffin (Olathe, KS).
Next up, the Comets will host the Tacoma Stars on Sunday, February 22 for the regular season finale at 3:00 p.m. CT.
