Ontario Fury News Release
The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, had its winning streak stopped at five games Saturday night as the Turlock Express rallied late to win 9-8 in overtime.
Junior Alencar scored the game-winner on a power play in the 10-minute extra session, as Christian Saray was in the penalty box for obstruction. But the it was the Express' rally shorthanded that put the Fury on its heels.
Ontario (6-4) was leading 8-6 with 2:18 to go when Samuel Saldate was whistled for charging Fury goaltender Alexis Apodaca. But a pair of miscues in the Fury's defensive zone ended up in the Ontario net, as the Express (6-5) got shorthanded goals from Arturo Pulido and Roberto Castaneda to tie the game.
The Fury had taken a 4-1 lead in the second quarter when a melee broke out that ended with both starting goaltenders - Ontario's Ramon Torres and Turlock's Sanaldo - being ejected. Turlock, without a back-up goaltender on its game-day roster, resorted to using field players in goal, but Ontario was not able to take advantage, holding a 4-2 halftime lead.
The Express tied the game at four in the third period, then again at five at the start of the fourth. But Ontario was able to jump ahead by two in the fourth thanks to goals from Daniel Villela and Bernie Lilavois (the second goal of the night for both players). Saray had scored with 2:58 to go to take the 8-6 lead.
Ontario will be back in action Sunday as they will continue their Northern California swing with a 3 p.m. game at the Sacramento Surge. The game will be broadcast live on Go Live Sports Cast, and on tape delay at 6 p.m. on News Talk 1440 AM.
The Fury will return home Saturday night with a Pacific Division matchup against the Las Vegas Legends. Tickets, starting at $10, are available tat the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office.
