Furcal and Reed to Jupiter; Owings to Disabled List; Sanchez joins Jacksonville

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Jackson Generals at The Ballpark at Jackson at 8:05 p.m. ET.

Infielder Rafael Furcal's major league rehab assignment has been transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. With the Suns in 10 games over three rehab assignments Furcal hit .297 (11-for-39) with a pair of doubles, five runs scored, and four stolen bases.

Right-handed pitcher Micah Owings has been transferred from the temporary inactive list to the disabled list with a right triceps strain. In two starts this year Owings is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in eight and a third innings pitched.

Left-handed relief pitcher Frankie Reed has been transferred from the Suns to High-A Jupiter. Reed pitched in only one game for the Suns, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning against the Tennessee Smokies on June 7 at Bragan Field.

In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher Jesus Sanchez has been transferred from rookie level Batavia. Sanchez began the season with Triple-A New Orleans, going 0-3 with a 6.66 ERA in 17 games and one start. Sanchez is a former Southern Leauger, pitching for the Huntsville Stars in 2011 and 2012, and for his career he is 7-9 with a 3.87 ERA in 62 games pitched and 14 starts with 12 saves at the Double-A level. Sanchez was signed by the Marlins as a minor league free agent on Nov. 19, 2013.

Tonight the Suns start their five-game series with the Jackson Generals at 8:05 p.m. ET.
