Fundraising Benefit Planned for Shanley Athletic Director Sunday at Scheels Arena

Fargo, ND - Friends of Randy Nelson, activities director at Shanley High School, as well as members of the Fargo Force, Scheels Arena and Brandt Holdings, will host a pulled pork feed and silent auction Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Scheels Arena. Nelson was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma in early August and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments. The fundraiser will aid Nelson and his family pay for medical care, equipment and other expenses.

Lend A Hand, a program of Dakota Medical Foundation, is providing up to $5,000 of matching funds to provide more help to the family. Online donations may be made to www.dakmed.org/lendahand (click Donate). Cash and check donations can be sent to Bell State Bank at 3100 13th Ave. S, Fargo, ND 58103. Check can be made out to the Randy Nelson Benefit Fund.

The benefit includes a free will donation for a pulled pork sandwich, chips, baked beans, Dippin' Dots and soda or water. Additionally, a lawn tractor, Scanoe and television will be raffled off. Raffle tickets will sell for $20 each. Wristbands bearing the insignia "Team Nelson" will be sold for $5 each. Finally, a silent auction will run from 3 to 6:30 p.m. with more than 150 items including the following:

* University of North Dakota Team Autographed Stick

* Chicago Blackhawks Team Autographed Stick

* Joe Mauer Autographed Baseball Bat

* Matt Cullen Autographed Cully's Kids Jersey

* Plane Ride over Fargo for up to Four People

* Over 150 more items
