Frisco Fighters News Release
GREEN BAY - A fourth-quarter lull froze the Fighters out on the road at Green Bay on Saturday night. Frisco missed a field goal, threw a pair of interceptions, and fumbled a kick return in the final frame of a 67-38 loss to the Blizzard.
The 29-point setback marks the largest-ever margin in a Fighters' defeat, surpassing the team's 21-point league semi-final trip-up against the Massachusetts Pirates on Sep. 4, 2021.
Max Meylor's 21-yard touchdown strike to Demetrius Moore, EJ Burgess' 31-yard run, and a two-yard push by Meylor resulted from the fruitless Fighters (6-2) possessions. Those scores were part of 29 unanswered Green Bay (6-2)points.
Meylor's five-yard run with 1:36 remaining in the third frame broke a 38-all tie and wound up being the go-ahead score.
Martez Carter stomped down the field for a 30-yard surge on the game's first play from scrimmage. Burgess helped the Blizzard strike back in two snaps, running 23 yards and capping the scoring drive with an eight-yard romp.
Then came Tripp Harrington's four-yard scamper, which finished off a seven-play, 38-yard march. He scurried in from nine yards out after the defense stone-walled Green Bay on the other end.
Burgess powered in from short-yardage to get the second quarter underway and Andrew Mevis added a deuce after. Olalere Oladipo notched a safety two plays later, shaving Frisco's lead to four points. An illegal blitz on a 4th-and-1 from the Fighters' 1-yard line afforded Burgess the chance to make it a first-half hat trick right after. That drive ate up almost eight minutes.
Harrington whirled his way in for a five-yard score with 2:02 to go in the initial half, then Max Meylor burrowed in with eight ticks left. Bryce Crawford's 51-yard field goal knotted things at 31 apiece at the midway point.
With 3:05 gone in the third frame, Meylor's six-yard lob to Moore gave the home side a 38-31 edge, but Harrington's 21-yard run 5:17 later helped level things once more.
