Adirondack Frostbite News Release
DANBURY, CT - The Adirondack Frostbite erased three separate one-goal deficits for the second straight night, and defeated the Danbury Trashers 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.
The teams traded power-play goals early in the first period, with Danbury getting on the board first at 5:33. Dave MacIsaac gathered in the puck behind the Frostbite net, and skated out in front and beat Derek Gustafson with a quick shot for his 10th goal of the season.
Adirondack came right back to tie the game just 1:45 later. Hugo Belanger kept a clearing attempt in the zone at the right point, and found Kevin Watters wide open down low. Watters made a quick move on goaltender Sylvain Daigle, and flipped the puck into the net for his team-leading 26th goal of the season.
Special teams play continued to carry the day in the second period. Danbury took a 2-1 lead 13:18 into the period with its second power-play goal of the night. Gustafson made the initial save on a Donny Grover shot from the left-wing circle, but the rebound settled on David Hymovitz's stick on the far post, and he was able to jam the puck into the net for his 22nd of the season.
But, the Frostbite once again tied the game quickly, tallying a shorthanded goal just 1:05 later. Mark Hurtubise stole the puck in the neutral zone and came in all alone, beating Daigle to the five-hole for his 10th goal of the season.
Danbury took its third lead of the night at 12:29 of the third period, scoring a shorthanded goal. Shawn Collymore gathered in a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated in all alone, beating Gustafon to the five-hole for his sixth goal of the season.
As they had all night, the Frostbite once again came right back and tied the game 1:36 later. Danbury skated across the Frostbite line on a 3-on-1 break, but the pass went behind Donny Grover, and came to Hugo Belanger in the neutral zone. Belanger came in on a breakaway and beat Daigle for his 17th of the year.
The shootout went to seven rounds, with defenseman Scott Drevitch scoring the game-winning goal.
The Frostbite head west for a pair of games next weekend, playing at Missouri on Friday and at Quad City on Saturday. Both games start at 8:00 p.m. ET and can be heard on WCKM 98.5 starting with the pre-game show at 7:40.
Adirondack returns home on Friday, February 3, hosting the Roanoke Valley Vipers at 7:35 p.m. Tickets are available at the Glens Falls Civic Center Box Office, or by calling (518) 798-0202.
