Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, VT. The ABA Vermont Frost Heaves announced today that Wayne Lafley has joined the team as an assistant to head coach Will Voigt and will assist with the team's inaugural open tryout camp this weekend.

The tryout, which will take place at Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 30, with sign-ins and measurements, followed by several hours of workouts. Play will resume on Saturday with two sessions, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The camp concludes on Sunday with a single 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. session. Space permitting, the public is invited to watch.

Lafley, 31, is a native of Morrisville, VT, and a 1993 graduate of Peoples Academy, where he played for legendary coach Bob Rowe before going on to play one season at Johnson State. After a stint with Full Package Athletics, the Chicago-based company that has trained such NBA players as Elton Brand and Brad Miller, Lafley returned to the Green Mountain State, where in 2004 he founded Lone Wolf Athletics, Vermont's foremost player development company. From its headquarters in Colchester, Lone Wolf provides youth of all ages with basketball training. Lafley, who was recently named to the staff of this summer's prestigious Adidas Top Ten All-American Camp for girls, will continue to serve his Lone Wolf clients even as he picks up duties with the Frost Heaves.

"In just a few years Wayne has made an enormous impact on the local basketball scene," said Frost Heaves president and G.M. Alexander Wolff.

"Coach Voigt is excited about having him on board to help us take very good players and make them better. We want the Frost Heaves to be known throughout the basketball world as an incubator, and Wayne's player development background will help bring that about."

The early registration deadline for the open tryout has passed, but any ballplayer aged 18 or up may still sign up for the camp online at the Frost Heaves web site, www.vermontfrostheaves.com. Walk-up registrants will also be accepted on June 30, but must pay cash for the camp fee ($125 or $100 for Vermonters, plus a $50 late surcharge). Vermonters will qualify for the discounted rate if they can prove current residency with a valid driver's license or supply evidence that they played high school or college basketball in the state.
