Frost Heaves add 6'10" shotblocker Antoine Hyman
January 31, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
South Burlington, Vt.-The Vermont Frost Heaves, 19-4 and No. 2 in the American Basketball Association's power rankings, have signed 6'10" Antoine Hyman, the all-time NCAA Division III shotblocking leader.
He has joined the team in advance of tomorrow's meeting with the Cape Cod Frenzy at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, and will be available to meet the press at practice at Memorial this afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Hyman, 31, is a native of Buffalo and 1997 graduate of Keuka College in New York State, where he blocked 4.3 shots per game. During a lengthy professional career, Hyman has played in France, Finland, Latvia, Japan and Germany, as well as in such stateside pro leagues as the CBA, USBL and IBL.
"There isn't much we'd like to do with the team, given how well we've been playing of late," said team president and G.M. Alexander Wolff. "But Antoine is an ideal addition for the stretch run. He's an unselfish defensive specialist who knows we don't need a 'savior,' only a solid, professional contributor. And he shores up our frontcourt in advance of playoffs that we expect to put more emphasis on size and strength."
The Frost Heaves host the Frenzy tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. It will be Middlebury Night at Memorial, with alumni, students, staff and friends of Middlebury College on hand, and former Panther basketball coach and athletic director Russ Reilly suiting up as the Northfield Savings Bank 110% Community All-Star. And it will be a homecoming for Cape Cod owner and G.M. Ian McCarthy, who played for coach Bob Tipson's Champlain College teams.
Advance tickets for Frost Heaves games are available through the Flynn Regional Box Office, 153 Main Street in Burlington and 159 Pearl Street in Essex; by calling 802-86-FLYNN; and through flynntix.org. A limited number of general admission seats for games in Burlington may be purchased at First in Fitness in Montpelier during regular business hours.
The Frost Heaves return to the Barre Municipal Auditorium for a 7:05 p.m. tip on Thursday, Feb. 8, and a 4:05 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Feb. 10. For tickets, go through the Flynn, or stop by First in Fitness in Montpelier, or the Barre Opera House during regular box office hours.
