Kingston Frontenacs News Release
Kingston Frontenacs contained the visiting Oshawa Generals to the East Division basement tonight and reaching .500 for the first time this season with a commanding 9 - 3 win.
Kingston Frontenacs open the scoring, just under 5-minutes in the First Period, with Evan Kotsopoulos (6) assisted by Griffith and Suda. At 6:46, Tony Rizzi (5) bangs in a nice shot from Hughes and Bolt. Anthony Stewart (8) nicely scores Kingston's 3rd goal of the night at 7:11 assisted by Nemeth and Griffith. Oshawa makes a goaltending change, Ryan Gibb replaces the shell-shocked rookie Dan Turple. Frontenacs' Nemeth gets 2-minutes for Holding at 11:08 and Oshawa takes advantage of the powerplay opportunity at 11:54, Brett Trudell assisted by the Donati brothers. Generals' Nasby is caught for Interference at 13:54. Kingston takes their turn at powerplay opportunities, rookie Ben Shutron (1) his first OHL goal assisted by Rizzi and Hughes at 16:31. Generals go back to the penalty box at 18:25, Thompson for Roughing and Kingston goes on the powerplay. Frontenacs lead 4 - 1.
Second Period opens with Kingston on the powerplay. At 5:29 the Generals cuts Frontenacs lead in half, Brandon McBride assisted by Hulit and Berti. Ryan Stephenson (3) gets his own rebound at 7:38, assisted by Waddell and Raftis. At 9:34, Blake Pronk (1) scores his first of the season assisted by Waddell. Fronts' Lyons gets caught for Holding Opponents Stick at 11:34 then at 14:16 Suda is penalized for Roughing. Oshawa gets into penalty trouble starting at 14:16 with Kavanagh, Gibbons 16:12 for Slashing, and at 18:35 Hooking to Thompson. The Frontenacs close the second period on the powerplay with total shots on goal 31 - 24 in favour of Kingston with six different goal scorers.
Third Period, Kingston plays tic-tac-toe with the puck and Ryan Gibb not having a chance on Anthony Stewart's (9) 2nd of the night assisted by Griffith and Kotsopoulos. Euro-pick Radek Smolenak (3) scores assisted by Lyons and Emmerton at 2:33 as Kingston now enjoys a 6-goal lead. Oshawa getting frustrated, Allen and Fronts' Smolenak are both called for Roughing at 3:36. Just after the 7-minute mark, Generals regroup as Adam Bertie skates the length of the ice scoring his first of the season. Deep inside the Oshawa end, a couple of rookies go toe-to-toe; Chris Stewart skates away without a sweater along with big Justin Sawyer at 7:16 and will serve 5 for Fighting. 8-minutes in Raftis is called for Slashing and the Generals go on the powerplay. Kotsopoulos takes a solid hit and skates off the ice favouring his arm. With a commanding lead and grueling road trip just ahead, Coach Hulton mixes the lines resting veteran and key players. Bobby Bolt and Justin Allen are the next pair to fight, and will serve Fighting majors at 17:46. 18:20, Radek Smolenak (4) scores his 2nd of the game assisted by Pronk for his 2nd point. Kingston wins 9 - 3.
Dayne Davis made good saves for Kingston going a full 60-minutes in net. Frontenacs had 20 players dressed. Danny Revelle is out with a knee injury suffered October 14th in Windsor.
Frontenacs earned their second consecutive Three Star Selection sweep. Anthony Stewart picked up his game with two goals and his leadership shined through earning the First Star Of The Game. Last year's top draft pick Tony Rizzi grabbed Second Star Of The Game. Ben Shutron kicked off his OHL career with his first goal and great playmaking for the Third Star Of The Game.
Attendance 2,069.
Kingston goes on a 3-game road trip starting Saturday in Belleville, off to Guelph on Sunday, then Peterborough this Thursday. Frontenacs then play their next three at home starting with the Brampton Battallion on Friday, November 5th; Game Time at Kingston Memorial Centre is 7:30PM.
