Fronk, Hiscock Lead RailCats to Series Tying Victory

Fargo, ND - Reid Fronk drove in five as the RailCats banged out 18 hits on their way to an 11-2 victory in game two of their American Association semi-final series with Fargo-Moorhead. The victory for Gary SouthShore evened the series at one game apiece as the team's head to U. S. Steel Yard for the final three games of the series.

Stephen Hiscock kept Fargo off the board into the seventh inning to pick up the victory in his first start against the Redhawks in his career. He went six and â..." innings and allowed one run on five hits and three walks. Hiscock struck out two and threw 87 pitches.

The RailCats wasted no time getting their offense started on Thursday night. With two outs, Cristian Guerrero doubled down the right field line and Reid Fronk drove him in with a base hit to left to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

In the fourth, the RailCats protected the lead with a great relay throw from Danny Pulfer. With CJ Retherford on first, Jeremiah Piepkorn doubled down the left field line and Retherford ran through a stop sign in an attempt to score Fargo's first run. Ryan Babineau held on to Pulfer's relay throw after a hard collision with Retherford for the final out of the inning.

The RailCats knocked Alex Caldera from the game in the top of the fifth inning. Adam Klein drew a four-pitch walk to begin the inning and Mike Massaro punched a base hit to left to end the night for the Caldera. Derrick Miramontes entered and promptly allowed a single to Cristian Guerrero to load the bases then a bases clearing double to Reid Fronk to take a 4-0 lead for the RailCats.

After a pitching change, Zac Mitchell ripped a base hit through the middle off reliever Ethan Upsahl to make it 5-0 and finish off the four-run inning for the RailCats.

Pitching for the first time this season against Gary SouthShore, Caldera went just four innings and allowed three runs on six hits and four walks. He took the loss and threw just 79 pitches.

Fronk continued his banner night with a run-scoring double in the sixth inning. Mike Massaro crossed home after reaching on an infield single with two out. His run made it 6-0 RailCats.

In the bottom of the seventh, Fargo scratched across a run with a leadoff double by CJ Retherford. After Jeremiah Piepkorn's fly out to right, Retherford touched home on Keith Brachold's ground out to first.

The RailCats broke it open against reliever Chris Bodishbaugh in the top of the eighth. With one out, Reid Fronk walked, Ryan Babineau singled and Brian Kolb was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Drew Martinez then began a run of three straight run-scoring hits for the RailCats and Adam Klein plated another with a sacrifice fly to right to cap off a five-run frame for the RailCats.

Fargo added one late with a fielder's choice RBI to make it 11-2 in their half of the eighth.

Mike Massaro was one of seven RailCats with multi-hit games on Thursday night. Zac Mitchell drove in three and reached in all five of his plate appearances.

The RailCats will play game three of the semi-final series with Fargo on Thursday night at Newman Outdoor Field. RHP Brian Ernst (7-2, 4.34 ERA) will throw for Fargo; RHP Billy Spottiswood (6-3, 3.44 ERA) for the RailCats. Listen live online at RailCatsBaseball.com beginning at 7:00 p.m.
