Seattle Seawolves News Release
(TUKWILA, WASHINGTON) - The Seattle Seawolves have signed BYU National Champion and former Utah Warrior flyhalf, Jared Whippy. The knowledgeable and skilled back brings his assets to the Pacific Northwest franchise after spending the past four season with the Warriors.
"Having a player of Jared's experience and quality is an assist to our squad," said Seawolves head coach and director of rugby Allen Clarke. "He has an excellent understanding of rugby union and a quality pass, run, and kick game. We welcome Jared, his partner, Kaitlyn, and daughter, Nellie, to the Seawolves family for the 2022 season."
Originally from Suva, Fiji, the 31-year-old grew up around the game in his rugby-loving home country. After moving to Utah, Whippy joined United Rugby Club in Alpine. Development in his high school seasons earned him the opportunity to sign with Brigham Young University for his college career. During his time at BYU, he won two National Champions and earned USA Collegiate All-American selection. Whippy also showed prowess in the sevens version of the game, helping the Utah Selects win back-to-back Club 7s National titles in 2016 and 2017. He is no stranger to Major League Rugby, joining the Utah Warriors in the inaugural season in 2018 and making a handful appearances for their Club through 2021. The 5'11, 225 lbs. flyhalf bring even more rugby I.Q. and sound decision making to the Seawolves backline for the rest of the 2022 season. You can watch his highlights here.
"Just very grateful for the opportunity Clarkie and the Seawolves gave me to continue my rugby journey," said Whippy. "I'm excited to get amongst it with the boys and earn their trust and hopefully bring another championship to the Pacific Northwest."
The Seattle Seawolves host NOLA Gold (0-3) at Starfire Stadium Friday, March 4 at 7:30 PM. There will be a youth camp pre-match in Seattle's Run with the Pack, presented by Westfield Southcenter, and 1st-8th grade boys and girls are encouraged to sign up here.
Seattle versus NOLA is the MLR Game of the Week and will be broadcast on FS2 nationally and streamed online internationally on The Rugby Network. Half-season memberships, single match tickets, and group tickets are on sale now at www.tickets.seawolves.rugby.
