Frogs Fall Just Short on Father's Day Battle

EVERETT, WA: On a cloudy but dry Father's Day at Funko Field, the Everett AquaSox looked to secure a series win against the Tri-City Dust Devils. In a ten-run slugfest, the Frogs fell just short by a score of 6-4 in front of 3,005 fans. Everett slides to two games below .500, four days after climbing all the way back to that mark.
AquaSox starting pitcher Michael Flynn came out firing, throwing a 1-2-3 top of the first with a pair of strikeouts. However, the second inning proved to be much different due to a costly error by Cole Barr at third base allowing two runs to score. Tri-City would go on to score four runs (one earned) in the inning on four hits and one error.
Everett's offense finally found the hit column with a sharply hit single by Victor Labrada in the bottom of the third. AquaSox DH Mike Salvatore tried to create a spark in the lineup in the bottom of the fourth with a line drive single off the wall but was thrown out at second base trying to stretch the hit into a double.
Tri-City relief pitcher Connor Higgins entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning which finally got the bats going for the AquaSox. Trent Tingelstad laced a double down the right field line and moved to third base on a wild pitch. An error by Dust Devils second baseman Kyren Parris allowed Tingelstad to score, giving Everett their first run of the game. James Parker then came up clutch, driving in Justin Lavey on an 0-2 pitch cutting the Tri-City lead in half.
The Frogs weren't done just yet. Mike Salvatore found a 2-1 fastball that he liked and drove it 364 feet over the wall in deep left field tying the game 4-4. It was Salvatore's first home run wearing an AquaSox uniform since joining the team on June 6th.
The Everett pitching staff was able to keep the Dust Devils scoreless for the next five innings until they struck again in the top of the eighth. Tri-City Right Fielder Steven Rivas lined a fastball from Luis Curvelo over the left field wall for an opposite field home run, giving the Dust Devils the lead back. The very next batter, Edwin Yon, showed his power and demolished 2-2 pitch 437 feet to dead center field making the score 6-4.
A leadoff single by Andy Thomas in the bottom of the eighth was shut down quickly as Lavey grounded into a double play eliminating the potential scoring threat.
Dakota Donovan came into the game for Tri-City in the bottom of the ninth with a save situation on the line. Victor Labrada hustled out a two-out infield single to keep Everett's hopes alive. Noelvi Marte was then hit by a pitch, bringing the potential go-ahead run to the plate but Tingelstad was out on a called strike three to end the contest giving Tri-City a 6-4 win and a 3-3 series split.
Luis Curvelo (3-1) took the loss as Hayden Seig (1-0) recorded the win for Tri-City.
Everett hits the road for a two-week road trip starting in Spokane against the Indians on Tuesday. You can catch the AquaSox back in action at Funko Field on July 4th against the Vancouver Canadians and as always on the KRKO radio broadcast.
