Frisco's Pitching Sinks Hooks Again

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders stymied the Corpus Christi Hooks' offense once again on Friday in a 2-1 win, striking out 14 at Whataburger Field.

Frisco (22-15, 53-52) has now allowed just three runs over the first four games of the series including two shutouts. The Riders did not allow a run for 23 consecutive innings until Corpus Christi (19-18, 52-54) scored one run in the the ninth inning on Friday. The Riders have not trailed at any point this week against the Hooks.

The Riders clinched the series against Corpus Christi by winning the first four games of the six-game series. Frisco is now tied with Amarillo for first place in the South Division second-half standings.

Frisco scored its only runs on Friday in the seventh inning. Keyber Rodriguez walked with one out, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. David Garcia walked and with runners on the corners, Jayce Easley scored both teammates on a sacrifice bunt plus an error, earning his first Double-A RBI. Jordan Sprinkle (3-1) took the loss by allowing one earned run and committing the throwing error.

Dane Acker went 4.1 scoreless innings in his start for Frisco, allowing five hits with five strikeouts. He stranded two runners in each of his first three innings, then struck out the side in order in the fourth.

Acker exited in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and one out. Aidan Anderson entered to strike out back-to-back hitters and leave the bases full.

Michael Brewer (2-2) kept that string going by striking out the side in order in the sixth inning and was credited with the win.

Florencio Serrano faced the minimum in the seventh, striking out one batter and finishing the inning on a double play. Reid Birlingmair did the exact same in the eighth.

Birlingmair came back out for the ninth and struck out the first batter before allowing a solo home run. He struck out the next hitter and gave way to Antoine Kelly, who finished the game on a three-pitch strikeout and took the save.

Frisco's bullpen has allowed just one run and four hits this series over 15.2 innings.

Garcia led the way offensively for Frisco on Friday by reaching base three out of four times with a single, a walk and a hit by pitch. Rodriguez and Chris Seise both had doubles.

Frisco has still not lost a six-game series since the San Antonio week beginning May 30th. The Riders have not lost consecutive games since July 16th and have not lost three games in a row since July 1st.

Frisco faces Corpus Christi again on Saturday, August 11th at 7:05 p.m. for the fifth game of the six-game series. RHP Seth Nordlin (1-3, 5.63 ERA) is Frisco's starter. The Hooks send out RHP Angel Macuare (1-1, 4.94 ERA).
