Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The RoughRiders collected 14 hits and Blake Beavan pitched seven shutout innings as Frisco took three of four in San Antonio
The âRiders roughed up the Missions on Saturday 9-5 to take three of four games on the road trip in San Antonio. Frisco starter Blake Beavan (4-4) didn't allow a run over seven innings, striking out four, as he hasn't allowed a run his past 14 consecutive innings. Chris Gradoville led the offense with three hits and his first home run of 2009, an inside-the-park homer.
Frisco took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Steve Murphy singled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Gradoville. The âRiders scored two runs in the third inning when Marcus Lemon scored on a bases loaded walk and Craig Gentry scored on a Murphy sacrifice fly followed by two more runs in the fourth frame when Gradoville led off the inning with an inside-the-park home run followed by a sacrifice fly by Chad Tracy. Frisco pushed their lead to 8-0 with three runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Gradoville, an RBI ground out to score Renny Osuna, and an RBI single by Gentry. The RoughRiders tacked on one more run in the ninth when Steve Murphy doubled and scored on a ground out to give Frisco the 9-0 advantage. The Missions would plate five runs on five hits in the bottom of the ninth off Frisco's bullpen, but the comeback fell short, 9-5.
Beavan allowed just five hits and one walk over seven shutout frames to earn his first career road victory at the Double-A level. Frisco relievers Andrew Laughter and Thomas Diamond combined to allow five runs in the ninth inning, but Beau Vaughan entered the game to get the final out of the game on two pitches, notching his seventh save on the season. San Antonio starter Corey Kluber (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on six hits over three innings.
Murphy and Gradoville each recorded three hits, including a pair of doubles by Murphy. Gradoville matched his season-best with three RBI and Murphy scored three runs as every hitter in Frisco's starting line-up reached base at least once. Anthony Contreras led the Missions offense with three hits, a run, and an RBI.
The RoughRiders, who have won six of the past seven games, remain three games behind Midland as the RockHounds defeated Corpus Christi on Friday. Frisco now returns home for the final homestand of the season, beginning with three crucial games against the first-place RockHounds. First pitch on Saturday is at 7 p.m. from Dr Pepper Ballpark.
