Frisco Fighters News Release
Kicker Bryce Crawford split the uprights from 18 yards out as time ran out, giving the Fighters a 38-36 road victory in a thriller against Green Bay Saturday night.
Frisco (3-1) began the game-winning possession with only 12.9 seconds to go. In three plays, Blake Sims and Justin Rankin gained 22 yards to set up the chip shot boot.
The Fighters entered the fourth frame up by eight. After Crawford's 35-yard try smacked off the upright with 10:15 remaining, the Blizzard (0-4) embarked on an 11-play march that lasted over eight minutes. The hosts had a first-and-goal from Frisco's two-yard line but wound up settling for three points.
The Fighters gave the ball back with under a minute left and Blizzard quarterback Jack Sheehan completed three straight passes - including a scoring strike to Keshaun Taylor - to give his team its first lead of the night. Sheehan and Taylor linked up for three touchdowns after halftime.
This all after the Fighters' defense limited Green Bay to one score in the first half. Cedric Poole's 45-yard field goal return gave Frisco a 21-7 edge as the horn sounded on the second quarter.
Green Bay made good use of each of its five drives in the final half hour.
Sims also scored on foot twice. His backup, TJ Edwards, put up the game's first points on a shovel pass to Rankin, who scampered for a touchdown, as well.
Crawford also buried a buzzer-beating field against Duke City in another instant-classic last season. The streaking Fighters will visit the Quad City Steamwheelers for the clubs' first-ever meeting next Saturday.
