Frisco Once Again the Apple of (Lane) Adams' Eye

SPRINGDALE, ARKANSAS (JULY 6, 2014) - The Frisco RoughRiders batted 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, and a pair of familiar nemeses, one old and one new, chipped in two home runs as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals blanked the RoughRiders 3-0 on Sunday night.
Hunter Dozier, who blasted his first Double-A home run in the eighth inning on Saturday night, waited until his next at-bat to register his second long ball for Northwest Arkansas. The native of Denton, Texas jumped on a 2-0 mistake from Frisco starter Jerad Eickhoff to give the Naturals a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
While Dozier has emerged as a new threat in the Texas League, Lane Adams continued to punish the RoughRiders with a solo home run to dead-away center field in the sixth. The centerfielder batted 3-for-4 on the night with two doubles and his tenth jack of the year. Adams holds a batting average north of .400 against Frisco this season.
Eickhoff (6-6) was pegged with the loss. He allowed three runs on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts. In particular, the Indianan struggled at the outset to retire leadoff batters, a weakness exploited by Dozier.
In a role reversal, Northwest Arkansas starter Jason Adam (3-8) notched the win. The two hurlers met on June 30, but flipped decisions with Eickhoff earning the win and Adam the loss.
On Sunday, Adam lasted five innings and shut out the 'Riders on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Offensively, the RoughRiders continued to labor as they have through much of this series. Frisco left men in scoring position in four of the first five frames and have yet to generate a hit with a runner on second or third base in games against Northwest (0-for-17).
Given the quiet night at the plate, the situation appeared to grow dire in the sixth when the Naturals scored twice to take a 3-0 edge.
After Adams' moon shot, the Naturals tagged Eickhoff for two more hits in the sixth and a fielder's choice ground ball from Cheslor Cuthbert pushed the home team up three runs.
Frisco tallied three base hits after Adam left the contest and did not crack an extra-base hit in the ballgame. With two outs and a runner on first via a hit-by-pitch in the eighth, manager Vance Wilson called closer Andrew Triggs out of the bullpen.
Triggs struck out Joey Gallo to end the frame and although Jake Skole and Drew Robinson singled in the ninth, Guilder Rodriguez grounded out to short to present Triggs with his 12th save of the season in 14 opportunities.
With the loss, Frisco (48-37; 8-8) falls back to .500 in the second half of the season and loses the three-game series to Northwest Arkansas. The RoughRiders have been shut out four times in 2014.
The Naturals (34-53; 9-8) move to 5-6 against the 'Riders this season and have a chance to earn a split in the season series, which concludes tomorrow.
