Frisco beats Tulsa

July 10, 2006 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release

The Tulsa Drillers losing streak reached seven games Monday night in Frisco, Texas with a 4-1 loss to the RoughRiders. The Drillers led 1-0 through five innings, but a 4-run sixth inning for the RoughRiders decided the game.

Tulsa took an early lead with a run in the first inning against Adam Eaton, who was making an injury rehabilitation assignment from the Texas Rangers. With one out, Seth Smith tripled and scored on a base hit by Ian Stewart. It would be all the offense that the Drillers could generate.

Drillers starting pitcher Juan Morillo did his best to protect the slim lead. Through five innings, Morillo surrendered only a pair of singles and a walk, before running into trouble in the sixth. Jayce Tingler walked to begin the inning and then scored on a double by Kevin Mahar to tie the game. Another double by Kevin Morrissey scored Mahar to give Frisco a 2-1. Nate Gold followed with his 13th homer of the year to put the Riders in front 4-1. Gold's big hit ended Morillo's night as Judd Songster came on to record the final two outs of the inning.

Tulsa's best chance to cut into the lead came in the eighth inning as Ian Stewart singled and moved to third on a double by Joe Gaetti. Jordan Czarniecki then hit a groundball to third, and Stewart was thrown out at the plate attempting to score. The inning and the threat ended with Christian Colonel's fly ball out.

Jeremy Ward pitched around a two-out single in the ninth inning to preserve the win for Frisco and record his first save of the year.

The loss dropped Tulsa's second-half record to 6-11.
