Friedrichs Shuts Down Drillers in Win

July 28, 2019 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release

Saturday night, Tulsa delivered a "knockout," scoring six runs in the fourth inning. The RockHounds came back with what could be described as a "TKO" of their own, defeating the RockHounds, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Security Bank Ballpark.

The 'Hounds scored three runs in the first inning and that was more than enough for Kyle Friedrichs, who went seven innings to record his third consecutive quality start (see below).

Edwin Diaz ripped a two-run double to highlight the three-run rally ... Nate Mondou continued a stretch in which he has been the club's hottest hitter (2-for-4 with two runs, a double and a hit by pitch) ... and Dan Gamach had a pair of RBI.

Friedrichs (5-5, 3.38) went seven innings for the win. He allowed nine hits and one walk while striking out five and escaped a major threat in the fifth, giving up just one run after the Drillers loaded the bases with no outs.

Jesus Zambrano, backed by a key double play in the eighth, earned a two-inning save, his third save in as many opportunities.

Notables

In his last three starts, Kyle Frierichs is 3-0, with a 0.43 ERA. He has gone seven innings in each appearance, surrendering just one run over 21 innings (24 hits and just three walks while striking out 14).

In his last nine games, Nate Mondou is hitting .424 (14-for-33) with seven runs, two doubles, one home run and five RBI.

Edwin Diaz's double was his league-leading 27th and his 40th extra-base hit of the season ... both are career highs.
