Frieders Leads Pippins to Series Opening Win over Victoria

Take a bow, Tyler Frieders.
The Yakima Valley right-hander tossed eight solid frames, allowing just one run and scattering nine hits, as the Pippins beat the Victoria HarbourCats 5-1 on Friday at Yakima County Stadium.
Frieders, who struck out two and walked three, ran into a bit of early trouble, but after escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first, he settled down and faced four or fewer batters in each of the next three innings.
Konner Kinkade had a stellar outing in center field with two outfield assists, including nabbing Dallas Macias at the plate in the fifth inning to keep the score tied 1-1.
That play sparked Frieders, who then retired nine of the next 10 batters he faced to end his outing. Payton Graham pitched the ninth, striking out one and allowing a hit before slamming the door.
Frieders joins Ethan Salscheider as the only two Pippins pitchers to toss at least eight innings in a contest this season.
Jace Phelan capped the Pippins' scoring with a solo homer over the right field wall for his first homer of the season at home.
Tommy Eisenstat got back on track as well, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI in the contest, which took just two hours, two minutes to complete. Eisenstat plated one of those runs in the Pippins' three-run fifth to break a 1-1 tie. Chris Clement knocked in the other two runs with a double.
The Pippins will look to capture the series at 4:35 p.m. Saturday. The early start will allow a postgame concert put on by Englewood Heights to begin about 7 p.m.
