Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies took over the internet and national media outlets once again, this time with the announcement of the Frankenslice, which is a hot dog stuffed crust pepperoni slice that will be exclusively available during their Thursday, May 21st home game against the Nashville Sounds, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. The Frankenslice ties into the Halfway to Halloween promotion that includes an in-park Haunted House designed by the minds behind the upcoming Mud 'n Blood Zombie Run at Hobbs Grove in Sanger.
First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT, with gates opening to the general public at 6:05 p.m. Like all Thursday home games, the Grizzlies will offer $2 24-ounce Tecate and Tecate Light through the end of the fifth inning, as well as $1 12-ounce sodas all game long. Also, the game includes the return of former Fresno Grizzlies pitcher and 2002 American League Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito, who will start for Nashville.
Thursday's game also marks the home debut of Astros' 2012 No. 1 overall pick Carlos Correa, who is batting .318 (12-38) with four doubles, a homer, four RBI, and 10 runs scored over his first eight games in a Grizzlies uniform. The 20-year-old is rated by MLB.com as the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball, is only the 12th No. 1 overall pick without major-league experience to ever play in the Pacific Coast League, and currently ranks first in all of Minor League Baseball in runs scored (35), hits (57), extra-base hits (29), total base (104), doubles (19), slugging percentage (.671), and on-base + slugging percentage (1.105).
He is just one part of a first place Fresno Grizzlies (22-17) team that is coming off of a 6-2 road trip. Astros' No. 3 Prospect Domingo Santana currently owns a career-high 15-game hitting streak and connected on two home runs in Tuesday's win at El Paso to give him 10 on the season. Jon Singleton recently won Pacific Coast League player of the week honors for crushing five home runs (three grand slams) and 23 RBI over a seven-day period from May 11-17. The Fresno first baseman is leading all of Minor League Baseball in home runs and RBI.
