Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies fought tooth and nail for every run, but it still wasn't enough to overcome the Oklahoma RedHawks.
A single five-run inning by the RedHawks held up over the course of nine innings as the Grizzlies (58-57) dropped the fourth and final game of the series to Oklahoma (57-55), 5-4. Fresno also dropped three out of the four games to the RedHawks, and will now hope to turn around its luck as the New Orleans Zephyrs come to town.
Making his third start this year and taking the loss for the Grizzlies was Russ Ortiz (1-1), who is continuing to rehab for the San Francisco Giants. Ortiz pitched five innings for the Grizzlies, and four of them posted zeros. It was the five-run third inning by the RedHawks that put the Grizzlies behind the eight ball
The Fresno offense had no problem getting on base-it had 13 hits on the night. Yet despite out hitting the RedHawks by three hits, the Grizzlies could not overpower the RedHawks on the scoreboard.
Even as the Grizzlies donned Giants jerseys for the night, Fresno was unable to muster the offensive magic that helped Barry Bonds blast home run 755 on Saturday. Still, four different Grizzlies drove in a run, all within the first five innings.
Every Grizzlies starter had at least one hit in the game, with shortstop Luis Figueroa and Nate Schierholtz each collecting two hits. Schierholtz had a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored for the Grizzlies. Schierholtz also leads the team with 106 hits on the year.
Fresno will now turn its attention to the New Orleans Zephyrs, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, for the remaining four games of its current eight-game homestand.
Sunday's 6:05 game will feature a pregame autograph session with Grizzlies players, sponsored by ABC 30. Following the game, all kids 12 and under can run the bases thanks to Del Taco and all fans will be invited down onto the field to enjoy the baseball movie classic Field of Dreams on the Chukchansi Park video board.
Only 12 Grizzlies home games remain season, so purchase your tickets now at the Chukchansi Park ticket office, over the phone at 559-320-TIXS, or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
