North Texas Fresh News Release

(Fort Worth, TX) - The North Texas Fresh defeated the Oklahoma City Impact at the Brewer High School Sports Arena 163-124 after coming out to a commanding 45-12 lead to end the first quarter. Robert Taylor led the way early on, drawing three fouls and four offensive rebounds. Taylor converted all three of his free throw opportunities and was able to finish with a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds including 9 offensive rebounds.

The team successfully utilized a full-court press for most of the first quarter and was rewarded with multiple turnovers by Impact starting point guard, Avery Stevenson, which was converted to fast break points by Lee and Duncan. The maddening pace of the offense didn't let up until late in the first quarter.

Dave Smith scored 11 in the first half including 3 three pointers. Lewis Lee provided consistent offense all night, scoring 13 in both halves and shooting .667 from the field with 14 rebounds along with 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals. "Lewis Lee has a work ethic that a lot of opponents have a hard time matching," said Coach Charles Hill. "I love watching him play the game of basketball."

Maurice "Snoop" Williams helped to create a defensive presence in the second and third quarters, finishing with 4 steals and 3 blocks along with an efficient 6-of-8 from the field to finish the night with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks, and 3 assist.

"When Maurice is in the game the defensive intensity on the floor goes to a higher level," said Coach Lisa Bowdy. "As a defensive minded coach, it brings me joy to coach a player of that caliber."

In the following quarters, the lead stayed steady. Oklahoma was able to score 37 in the second quarter, but was still outscored by the Fresh who scored 42.

Oklahoma managed to manufacture a 10-0 run early in the second half, but was unable to make an impact on the point differential after the third quarter. While the Impact outscored the Fresh 43 to 35 in the third quarter, the Fresh enjoyed a balanced offense coming all around with 10 players scoring 10 or more points which continued to the sustained lead.

The Fresh were able to coast to a victory after an impressive first quarter set them in a commanding lead. However, they did not have an effective answer for Jeremy Johnson, Impact forward, who was able to score 37 in the game and rally the Oklahoma City offense somewhat after their lackluster first quarter. Regardless, offense came easy to the Fresh who were able to fall back on a 62.1% team field goal percentage and tenacious offensive rebounding to coast to victory at home.

The 7th ranked Fresh will be back in action Saturday, December 5, as they visit the Dallas Generals at Fair Park Coliseum at 7pm. The Fair Park Coliseum is located at 1438 Coliseum Drive Dallas, Texas 75210.
