North Texas Fresh News Release
Fort Worth, TX. -Rookie guard Roy Giles scored a career-high 35 points and guard/forward A.D. Duncan adds 26 as the Fresh handled the Metroplex Lightning, 140-121.
Giles, delivered an outstanding effort to help offset great shooting from the Lightning as he was outstanding from behind the arc throughout the 2nd half after struggling in the 1st half, hitting 7 3 - point baskets. Duncan also played with aggression and showed his ability to be multi - dimensional as he was 1 assist shy of a triple - double with 9 assist to go with 10 rebounds.
A resilient offensive performance provided the highlight in head coach Joao "JC" Costa's first career victory as the Fresh head coach.
T.J. Gibson pulled down 11 boards along with chipping in 10 points and Jay Bowdy returned in his 1st game from injury scoring 17 points, dishing out 7 assist, and had a team-best 12 rebounds to give the Fresh three players with double - double performances. Carzel "Moose" Wynn showed why he is one of the scoring threats in the ABA tallying 20 points with 5 assists as well.
"We could have played much better but I will take the win," stated Coach JC. "Roy and Moose performance off the bench was awesome. We have a lot of work cut out for us though to be a great team come playoff time."
The Fresh had only a 5 point lead at halftime as Coach JC looked to push the gas to full throttle in the 3rd quarter starting Wynn and Giles. Travoy Edwards showed toughness in the middle scoring 11 of his 15 points in the 2nd half. Within minutes the Fresh pushed the lead to double digits and it remained that way throughout the course of the 2nd half.
North Texas Fresh leave home Saturday to face the West Texas Whirlwinds in Odessa, TX. The Fresh are (6 - 0) against the Whirlwinds in their continued rivalry.
