The Steamers walked 16 batters on Monday night at Historic Hicks Field to hand the Peninsula Pilots an 18-4 win. Edenton's three-game win streak was snapped, dropping its season record to 5-10, while Peninsula's record jumped to 9-5. The Pilots are now tied with the Wilson Tobs for first place in the North division.
This was the fifth contest between the two ballclubs, and Peninsula now has the 4-1 advantage.
Cole Prestegard led the way with four walks and three runs scored. He now has eight runs over the last five games he's logged.
Jonathan Embry added three more runs, including two hits and two walks.
Peninsula broke the game open in the seventh inning, scoring eight runs. In total, 13 batters came up to the plate in that half of the frame, with five of them getting walked.
The Pilots tacked on six more in the eighth inning.
AJ Spencer received the loss, falling to 0-3 after surrendering four runs in 4.2 innings. Seven more Clams relievers pitched in the ballgame.
At the plate, Zane Harris added two hits and a walk. Anthony Warneke's hitting streak has been extended to 10 straight games after going 1-for-4 with a base on balls and a run scored.
Rich Ciufo doubled in the first inning, bringing his hit streak to five games. Ciufo now has 10 extra base hits, which leads the Coastal Plain League.
Devon Gardner picked up another multi-hit game and is also on a five-game hitting streak.
The Steamers next play on Wednesday night at home against the Morehead City Marlins.
