Tomahawks Split Series with Knights

Goaltender Alex Tracy Earns First Shutout

The Johnstown Tomahawks are coming home after a two game series against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

The Hawks ended up splitting the series, with a 3-1 loss on Friday and 4-0 victory on Saturday.

Rookie goaltender Alex Tracy picked up his first NAHL shutout and rookie defenseman Malik Alishlalov score his first NAHL goal in Saturday's game.

Tracy's effort earned him an honorable mention, along with forward Christian Gorscak (1 goal, 2 assists), in the latest NAHL Bauer East Division Star of the Week report.

TUESDAY'S WORD:

"It was a tough split for us on the road this weekend, as I thought we put ourselves in a position to win both games. Friday night, we had a great start but came away with only one goal on 19 shots, which ultimately did us in, in my opinion.

I felt we could have had a mulitple goal lead instead of only being up 1-0. From there, it was a tight battle that saw them get a PP goal and then a goal midway through the 3rd right after we hit the cross bar. THat's the way it goes sometimes in a game of inches. David Tomeo was very solid in net for us despite the tight loss.

Saturday, I felt we had a strong game again, led by Alex Tracy's shutout performance and quality special teams. Four different scorers, as well as two PP goals and a solid job by our PK to shut them down completely. It was another tight game throughout before Tristan Poissant ended the 0-0 tie late in the 2nd.

From there, I felt we controlled the 3rd period adding goals from Chris Trouba, Spencer DenBeste, and Malik Alishlalov's first junior goal to wrap it up. I was especially proud of our team defense limiting them to only 22 total shots.

Obviously, we wanted better than the split, but we are encouraged by the positives of the weekend."

- Mike Letizia, Head Coach

UP NEXT: NORTHEAST RETURNS TO JOHNSTOWN

The Northeast Generals, fresh off a bye week, return to Johnstown for the first time since the Tomahawks knocked them out of the Division Semifinals of the 2019 Robertson Cup Playoffs on April 20, 2019.

The Generals are currently 4th in the East Division with 13 points, while the Tomahawks sit above them in 3rd with 16 points. This weekend's three game home stand provides the Tomahawks with the perfect opportunity to climb the division's ladder while creating more space between those trailing them.

The Tomahawks enter the series with four players averaging over one point per game in Bennett Stockdale, Carson Gallagher, Christian Gorscak, and Max Kouznetsov. Defensively, Matthew Doyle leads the team with an impressive +8 on the year.

A Northeast player to watch in this game would be forward Joseph Mancuso. He enters this series having scored a goal in each of his last three games. Mancuso is averaging one point per game this season

DID YOU KNOW? Founded in 2016, the Northeast Generals became the eastern-most team in the North American Hockey League.
