Frederick Fails to Score Off Red Sox Relievers In Series

July 23, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

Frederick was once again stifled by Salem's bullpen as the Keys registered two first inning runs and nothing else in a 4-2 series ending loss in Salem Thursday night.

As they did a night ago, the Keys got off to a hot start in the first inning off of Salem starter Stephen Fife.

SS Pedro Florimon singled and stole second base. 1B Robbie Widlansky then grounded a base hit that moved Florimon up to third base. 3B Brandon Waring reached on an error to load the bases for LF Tyler Henson.

Henson came through, with a double down the left field line scoring two runs. In the series Henson registered five RBI's. Frederick would leave runners at second and third bases in the inning and would not score again.

Salem got a run back in the first on a two-out RBI base hit by 1B Mike Jones. In the second inning a two-out rally netted two runs led by 2B Kris Negron's triple off of the center field wall.

The story of the series though was the dominance of the Red Sox bullpen.

Entering in the sixth inning with two on and two out reliever Robert Coello struck out Keys RF Billy Rowell to stunt the potential rally. Coello retired all seven batters he faced, with five coming via the strikeout.

All-in-all Salem relievers worked 12 and 2/3rd scoreless innings in the series.

Frederick returns home Friday, July 24th to take on the Lynchburg Hillcats with fireworks following the 7:00 p.m. start. Nate Nery will be on the hill for Frederick.
