TODAY: The Potomac Nationals have one last chance to claim their first series victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats from Lynchburg City Stadium since April 14-16 of the 2008 season when they play the rubber match of their three-game series beginning at 7:05 p.m. Last week, the P-Nats won their first series against the Hillcats since July 17-18 of last year by taking three of four from the "Pfitz." Lynchburg had own this series with Potomac over the last two years having won four straight sets from their home ballpark dating back to last April. Overall, the Hillcats hold a 83-70 advantage over the Nationals from City Stadium.

TODAY'S OPPOSING STARTER: RHP Ronald Uviedo, 21, was signed as a minor league free agent by the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 5, 2006. The Venezuelan native was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as a non-drafted but was released from the M's Venezuelan Summer League club in 2005. He was outstanding in his domestic debut in 2007 pitching as a closer for State College of the NYP League. He was 2-0 with 12 saves in 21 appearances while striking out 26 batters in 21 IP. He made the move to up the ladder to the full-season A-ball affiliates of the Pirates in 2008 and had a breakout campaign going a combined 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA in 40 appearances with Low-A Hickory and Lynchburg.

This season, Uviedo is being stretched out to become a starter is 5-3 in 13 starts with 58 K and only 13 BB in 68.0 IP. He spent nearly a month on the disabled list and hasn't pitched for the Hillcats since June 17 when he capped off a three-game winning streak with a 6.0 inning, two run gem against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. He returns to the "Green and Gold" to face the only club who has beaten him in the Carolina League this year as Potomac is 3-0 this year against the right-hander. He's allowed eight earned runs in 16.2 IP against the Nationals with the defending Mills Cup champions hitting .314 in three games against Uviedo.
