Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver Giants defenceman CODY FRANSON has been nominated for the WHL Defenceman of the Year Award. Franson is the Western Conference nominee to be in contention for the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy.
Franson finished tied for fifth in Giants scoring this year. In 59 games, the Sicamous, B.C. native had 17 goals and 34 assists. He was tied for the team-lead in game-winning goals (6) and was second on the club in power play goals (12).
Franson, who has been drafted and signed by the Nashville Predators, also had a great season internationally. After being named to Canada's World Junior Team for the first time in his career, he helped his country win a Gold Medal at the World Junior Championships in Sweden last January.
Franson is now the Giants all-time leading scorer for defencemen (119 points). He is the second straight Giants blueliner to be nominated for the WHL Top Defenceman of the Year. Last season, PAUL ALBERS was the Western Conference finalist.
The 2007 Western Hockey League awards will be announced May 2.
