Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
The Saint John Sea Dogs (42-17-1-3) extended their win streak to ten games with a win against the Sherbrooke Phoenix (41-17-2-2) in their return to TD Station. Ryan Francis and Connor Trenholm connected on all the goals in the 3-2 win for Saint John, with one goal for Francis and two for Trenholm.
Thomas Couture got the start for Saint John, making 26 saves in the win. Jakob Robillard started for Sherbrooke, making 24 saves on 27 shots.
The Phoenix received the first power play opportunity of the night after a bench minor for too many players on the ice sent Brady Burns to the box. Xavier Parent took advantage of the power play and scored the first goal of the night at 9:35.
A high-sticking penalty to Vincent Sévigny at 9:51 gave the Phoenix another power play, but the Sea Dogs were able to successfully kill it and stay within one.
At 13:40, Nick Blagden was sent off on a boarding call. The penalty was killed successfully, but four seconds after it ended, the Phoenix added another goal to their lead at 15:44 with a goal from Stéphane Jr Huard.
Ryan Francis got the Sea Dogs on the board with a snipe at 16:14 and with 27 seconds remaining in the period, number 27 Connor Trenholm found the back of the net and tied the game at two going into the second frame.
Shots were 12-10 for Sherbrooke after the first.
Early in the second, Connor Trenholm and Ryan Francis connected again on the Sea Dogs third goal of the night, Trenholm firing the puck past the Phoenix netminder off a pass from Francis at 3:29.
Shots after the second were 22-20 for Sherbrooke.
The final period was quick with minimal whistles. The Sea Dogs maintained their 3-2 lead, even when the Phoenix pulled their netminder and added an extra attacker and won their ten straight game.
Final shots were 28-27 for Sherbrooke.
