Foxhounds Even Up Series With Peanuts

June 5, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, lost for only the second time this season when Aiken beat those 9-5 on Tuesday night. The win for the Foxhounds evens up the three game series setting up a rubber match between the two teams on Wednesday night.

The game started off well for the Peanuts. Within the first few minutes of the game, the Peanuts led 1-0. Jasha Balcom led off the inning with a double and then advanced to third on a Johnny Washington ground-out. Steve Garrabrants promptly hit an RBI single to put the team up 1-0. This was the only time that the Peanuts would lead in the ballgame. Aiken tied it up in the top of the first with a lead-off solo homerun from Jeff Timmons.

Timmons would strike again in the fifth inning. After Peanuts starting pitcher Dustin Taylor loaded the bases, Mike Colacchio came out of the bullpen to face Timmons. After getting behind 3-1, Timmons hit a no-doubt grand slam. In the inning, the Foxhounds scored five runs to lead the game 6-1. Aiken centerfielder Evandy DeLeon led off the sixth with the third home run of the day for Aiken. The Foxhounds put up another two runs in the sixth and one run in the eighth.

Despite being down big, the Peanuts continued to threaten. They would leave the bases loaded in the fifth inning and after scoring one run. The Peanuts also scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth. The game ended with the bases loaded and Kyle Keen grounding out to second.

Jasha Balcom went 2-4 on the night with two runs scored. Steve Garrabrants and Doc Brooks each had two RBI. Taylor started the game and took the loss. He allowed five runs in 4.1 innings of work but did strike out seven. Jake Upwood pitched the ninth inning only allowing one run.

Shannon Wirth will start for the Peanuts on Wednesday. Wirth leads the league in wins with four. South Georgia will have to win the game to continue the streak of winning every series so far this season. First pitch is set for 7:10. Tickets are still available. The game can be heard on "1450 The Fan" in South Georgia or online at www.southgerogiapeanuts.com.
