Foxes Sign Forward Franck Tayou for Remainder of USL Season
June 15, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno FC has announced the signing of forward Franck Tayou for the 2018 USL season, pending league and federation approval.
Tayou, 28, will bring depth to the Foxes' attacking front, where he has excelled at the USL level with former clubs San Antonio FC and Richmond Kickers in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, respectively. The Cameroon native is available for selection immediately and will wear No. 25 for the Foxes.
"We're excited for the addition of Franck Tayou to our club," said general manager Frank Yallop. "We're aware of his abilities and I've seen him do well as an opponent from my time as coach in Arizona. He's a big, strong forward who will add a presence to our offense and hopefully score lots of goals for us."
In his first season in the USL, Tayou tied for the team lead in goals at San Antonio FC, scoring five goals in 17 appearances. He had one goal in 13 appearances for the Kickers after joining the club as a mid-season signing during the 2017 season.
He has spent the past four months playing for FC Wichita of the National Premier Soccer League, where he has helped the club to a 6W-0L-0D start to the 2018 season, scoring seven goals in the six games. Tayou also scored twice in FC Wichita's 4-3 upset of Tulsa Roughnecks FC in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Before Wichita, Tayou was named Most Valuable Player of the Major Arena Soccer League, scoring 71 goals for Soles de Sonora during the 2017/18 season and helping the team to a runner-up finish. His 71 goals scored in the regular season broke the previous all time MASL record of 56, that he also set the year before.
Tayou played two years of collegiate soccer at West Virginia University helping the Mountaineers to the NCAA tournament in both years. He also has represented the United States Futsal National Team in the CONCACAF tournament.
