San Antonio FC Hosts Sacramento Republic FC at Toyota Field

June 15, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (4-3-5) will host Sacramento Republic FC (8-3-4) at Toyota Field on Saturday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. The match marks the second time the two clubs meet this season and the second of three consecutive USL home matches for the Alamo City club. The match will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest.

SAFC heads into the match looking to earn their second consecutive win at home after earning a dramatic stoppage-time win in their last USL match against Portland Timbers 2. SAFC is now 3-1-2 at home, and has not fallen at Toyota Field since April 14.

Sacramento Republic will look to build on their current run of good form. The club is in third place in the Western Conference, and earned a 1-0 win on the road against in-state rivals Fresno FC on Wednesday. The Republic has scored 19 goals so far this season while conceding 14.

The match marks the second time the two teams meet this season after SAFC narrowly fell 1-2 on the road in their season opener in Sacramento on March 17. The Alamo City club is 1-1-2 all-time against the California club, earning a 1-0 win at Toyota Field in their only matchup in San Antonio on May 6, 2017.

SAFC may see an advantage when it comes to rest. The club has not played a match since last Wednesday, while Sacramento will enter its third match in eight days, providing the hosts with an opportunity to prepare for their upcoming challenge against a tough opponent.

"Having a couple of days' break in between matches changes the routine in a good way," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "It gives the guys a chance to be with their families, which is something they hadn't been able to do since February when we started working. But we know we have a tough test ahead of us against good competition, and now our batteries are recharged and we're excited for the weekend."

Historically, San Antonio and Sacramento have always played tight matches, with neither team ever earning a win over the other by more than one goal. As both teams look to spark the beginning of a winning streak, Powell expects nothing short of a difficult challenge.

"We fully expect a tight game on Saturday," Powell said. "Sacramento is coming here in good form, but we've had a few days to prepare and we're looking forward to the challenge. We expect both teams to play good football and we're excited to be able to do it at home and in front of our own fans."
