Four Top Players Return from Last Season

ROANOKE, Va., November 4, 2003 – Cory Alexander, Mikki Moore, Geoff Owens, and George Williams will be returning players to the Roanoke Dazzle according to an announcement by Chris Alpert, NBDL Director of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel, and Head Coach Kent Davison.

"To have a foundation of these four players is a very positive beginning to our season" Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison said. "The athletic ability, experience and energy that these men bring to our team will greatly enhance training camp."

Cory Alexander, a former University of Virginia Cavalier, was on the All-NBDL Second Team last season. He led the league in assists with 6.1 a game, second in the league in steals averaging 2 per game, and was fifth in the league in points with 16.5 per game. Alexander, a six-year NBA veteran, was also the January player of the month in 2003.

Mikki Moore, from the University of Nebraska, was named National Basketball Development League Defensive Player of the Year and made the ALL-NBDL First Team for the 2002-03 season. He was the first selection in the 2002 draft by the Dazzle. Moore was called up twice last season. First to the Boston Celtics and then finished the season with the Atlanta Hawks. He signed as a free agent with the Seattle SuperSonics in September and was one of the last men cut in training camp. Moore was second in the league in both blocked shots (1.6) and rebounds (8.4) last season.

Geoff Owens, a University of Pennsylvania graduate, participated in the Cleveland Cavaliers summer league and training camp with rookie sensation LeBron James. He averaged 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last season for the Dazzle.

George Williams, a Houston native, played with the Toronto Raptors summer league and training camp. An NBDL rookie last season, Williams was one of the most improved players in the league. He averaged 2.6 rebounds and 4.5 points last season.

The Dazzle will open its third NBDL season at the Roanoke Civic Center on Sunday, November 30, with a 4 p.m. tip-off against the Fayetteville Patriots.
