Huntsville Flight News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL. (November 4, 2003) â Forward Lonnie Harrell, who led the Huntsville Flight in scoring at 13.4 points per game last season, is among four returning players from last season's team who will report to training camp on Saturday, November 8.
Joining Harrell are forwards Rodney Bias, Marcus Fleming, and Bakari Hendrix. Bias led Flight rebounders who played a full season with the team at 7.4 rebounds per game. Hendrix appeared in all 50 games, averaging 11.3 points per game. Fleming appeared in three games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
"These guys have a chance to continue to pursue the opportunity of playing in the NBA," Flight head coach Ralph Lewis said. "I'm looking forward to a very competitive camp, not only from these four guys, but from all of the players coming in."
The four from last season's squad will join former University of Alabama star Rod Grizzard and former Troy State star Lovell Craig when training camp begins. The rest of the Flight's training camp roster will be selected during the NBDL Draft on Thursday, November 6 beginning at 6:00 P.M. The Flight will host an NBDL Draft Party at the Furniture Factory beginning at 5:30 P.M.
The NBDL offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Eighteen (18) players have been called up the NBA on 22 separate occasions, including former Huntsville Flight guard Michael Wilks (Houston Rockets). Four former NBDL coaches and six referees have also been called up to the NBA since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
