Four Spirit Players Recognized In OHL Western Conference Coaches

(Saginaw, MI) The Ontario Hockey League announced today the results of the 2009-2010 Western Conference Coaches Poll, with several Spirit players being recognized for their efforts over the course of the regular season.

Spirit forward Josh Shalla secured nineteen points to be named the second top most improved player in the OHL Western Conference. Forward Jordan Szwarz earned fourteen points to be named the third top hardest worker, while forward Jordan Skellett notched sixteen points to be named the second best playmaker. Spirit captain Tyler Murovich was recognized in two categories, earning seventeen points to be named the third best on face-offs and twenty-seven points to be named the second best defensive forward.

The OHL Coaches Poll provides member club coaches with the opportunity to recognize the top three players in 16 different skill categories within their own conference. Each team submits one nominee per category and coaches then vote for the top three players for each category within their conference and are not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Players receive five points for a first place vote, three points for a second place vote, and one point for a third place vote. The Saginaw Spirit head to Kitchener for Game Five of their best-of-seven series against the Rangers on Friday, March 26. The game starts at 7:30 PM with a pre-game show airing at 7:00 PM - fans can watch the game live on Charter Cable, channel 5 in Saginaw and Bay City and channel 25 in Midland and Mount Pleasant. The broadcast of the game back to Saginaw is presented by The Saginaw Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau with support from The Dow Chemical Company, The Great Lakes Loons, Jet's Pizza and The Ross Medical Education Center.

If the Spirit win Friday night's game, there will be a Game Six held at The Dow Event Center on Sunday, March 28 at 4:00 PM. If the game will be played, tickets will go on sale Saturday, March 27 starting at 11:00 AM.
