Four-Run Eighth Secures Win for 'Riders

The 'Riders broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth with four runs to pull away 7-3 Tuesday night from Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Davis Stoneburner gave the 'Riders their go-ahead run on a solo blast in the eighth. Frisco tacked on another three in the inning on RBI hits by Jonathan Greene, Engel Beltre, and Elio Sarmiento.

Midland jumped on Frisco starter Robbie Erlin early in the first to take a 2-0 lead. The RockHounds came out swinging as they hit three consecutive singles to start the frame.Stephen Parker and Adam Heether both picked up RBIs in the inning.

Frisco answered in the second with Greene's two-run blast to left field to tie the game. It was Greene's second home run in as many days.

Tommy Mendonca's homer in the fourth gave the 'Riders their first lead of the night. Mendonca now has 74 RBIs on the season, tied for the second-most in the Texas League.

After a shaky first inning, Erlin settled down, but then surrendered a solo home run toWes Timmons in the seventh inning to tie the game at three.

Jake Brigham earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning to preserve the 3-3 tie and set up Stoneburner's lead-off blast that gave the 'Riders the lead and eventual win.

Midland starter A.J. Griffin pitched six and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs on seven hits in a no decision.

Midland and Frisco play game two of this three-game series Wednesday night from Dr Pepper Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Ben Snyder (8-2, 4.06) will toe the rubber for the 'Riders against right-hander Jason Bergmann (0-6, 7.01).
