Kinston Indians News Release

Kinston starter Alexander Perez was masterful in his second start for Kinston, but he suffered the no decision as Kinston was held to just four hits and lost 5-1.

Perez worked seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits, no walks and striking out five. Equally as dominant though was Keys Starter Rick Zagone, who tossed seven strong, allowing just one run on three hits, no walks and six strike outs.

Zagone was perfect through four innings, but on his first pitch in the fifth frame, Kinston's Ole Sheldon took him deep for his third homer of the season, breaking up the perfecto and the shutout with one swing.

Frederick would tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth, as Tyler Henson and Wally Crancer led off the inning with a single and a double respectively. With runners on second and third, David Cash grounded a ball to shortstop Ronald Rivas who chose to go home with the throw to try and peg out Henson. Henson slid in safely, however, and tied the game up 1-1.

It would stay that way until the eighth, when Kinston's David Roberts took the hill (0-2) and allowed a leadoff double to Henson. After a Crancer sacrifice bunt pushed Henson to third, the Keys called upon Brandon Waring from the bench to deliver a pinch-hit, go ahead RBI single through a drawn in infield. Then after a fielder's choice, a Lonnie Chisenhall error and a Robbie Widlansky single, Caleb Joseph smacked a bases loaded 3-RBI triple to break the game open and give Frederick a 5-1 lead. Roberts took the loss, giving up four runs (only one earned) in the eighth inning.

Chisenhall would extend his season-high hitting streak to 15 games with a double in his last at bat in the ninth inning, but Frederick's Eddie Gamboa (1-0) would shut the door on everyone else, working two innings and allowing just one hit to earn the win.

Kinston will try for the split tomorrow in a special 12:00 pm afternoon contest with Paolo Espino (1-5, 3.90) toeing the rubber for the K-Tribe at Frederick.
