Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo played to a 0-0 draw with Chivas Guadalajara of Liga MX in a friendly match Sunday evening at BBVA Compass Stadium.
It was the second all-time meeting between the clubs. Chivas captured a 1-0 win over the Dynamo in the SuperLiga group stage on July 15, 2008 at Robertson Stadium.
Three newcomers made their Dynamo debut, with D Keyner Brown and MFs Yair Arboleda and José Escalante in the starting lineup after joining the club during the Summer Transfer Window. Additionally, GK Calle Brown made his Dynamo debut after spending the full season with the club.
D DaMarcus Beasley entered the match in the 71st minute for his first appearance since July 8 at Orlando City. The Dynamo defender missed seven weeks after undergoing surgery to remove a loose body in his left knee.
Chivas brought a strong traveling roster, including new signing F Alan Pulido, who made his Chivas debut as a halftime substitute. F Isaac Brizuela, MFs José Vásquez, Nestor Calderon and Eduardo López and D Miguel Ponce also featured for Los Rojiblancos.
Houston's best scoring chances in the first half included FW Mauro Manotas forcing a save at the near post after a neat layoff from Arboleda early in the first half. Later, MF Ricardo Clark had a shot cleared off the line by a Chivas defender from a corner kick.
In the second half, MF Cristián Maidana missed the target after a nice Houston buildup and pass from Escalante. Earlier, Manotas missed wide with a chance from the top of the box.
The Dynamo return to MLS action on Friday as they visit Sporting Kansas City at 7 p.m. CDT. The Dynamo are back in Houston on September 24 to host the Portland Timbers.
