Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN --- The Lubbock Cotton Kings scored four third period goals to break open a tie game en route to a 7-4 victory over the Memphis RiverKings Tuesday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. It was just Lubbock's second game in their history at the DCC and the first since November of 2001. Nolan Graham had a hat trick and two assists; helping his team snap a three game losing streak. Derek Landmesser had a goal and two assists as Memphis came back from a 3-0 hole after the first period to tie the game entering the third.
The first period featured just a combined 10 shots on goal, five for each team, with Lubbock scoring on three of those shots to take a 3-0 lead into the second. Ryan Campbell, Derek Landmesser and Travis Banga tallied power play, even strength and shorthanded goals, respectively, in the second period to help the team rise from the ashes of the first period.
The Cotton Kings reclaimed the lead 3:47 into the third on a Vic Pereira goal with Nolan Graham scoring the next two, at 8:30 and 12:56, to complete the hat trick. Memphis' Ryan Watson gave the RiverKings some hope with his team high 13th power play, and 19th overall, goal at 16:11. But, Kyle Nosan scored an empty net goal on an acrobatic, belly dive shot along the half-wall in the RiverKings zone to put the lead back at three with 1:40 remaining.
The RiverKings finished with a 27-24 edge in shots on goals. Both teams also scored a pair of power play goals with Memphis going two for seven and Lubbock finishing two for six. Lance Leslie, who was making his first appearance versus Memphis since the 2003-2004 season, picked up the win to improve to 11-11-3 on the season and 5-2-1 in his career against Memphis. Goalie Michael Dilorenzo took the loss after relieving starter Guy St. Vincent after Lubbock's second goal in the first period. St Vincent made two saves on four shots while Dilorenzo stopped 15 of 19 and fell to 9-8-1 on the season.
The RiverKings have now lost seven consecutive games as they head out on the road this weekend. The team travels to Fort Worth on Friday and Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. The puck drops for both games at 7:30.
