Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â Four Charleston Swamp Foxes players either set team or individual records in Saturday's loss to the Macon Knights.Quarterback Johnny Turman, who has thrown for an average of nearly 320 yards in the past three games, set three single-game records in the losing effort.
Turman's trio of single-game records came in pass attempts and completions, going 31-for-51 for the single-game and North Charleston Coliseum record of 350 yards.Turman also broke his own record for pass attempts (42) and yards (325), but surpassed former Fox John Craven, who held the record of 26 completions set a 51-46 loss at Tallahassee on June 9, 2000.
Veteran receiver/defensive back Mike Chandler entered Saturday night's game eight-points shy of overtaking Kenyatta Spruill's career scoring record of 196 total points. Chandler tallied three receiving scores giving him 18 points on the night and the lead in the all-time scoring department.
Spruill, a three-year player from 2000-2002, recorded 32 career touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions to set the mark at 196. A local product of The Citadel, Spruill retired midway through last season.
Chandler currently has 206 career points and stands 236 yards shy of the all-time leading receiver mark, as well.
The veteran duo of Michael Brown and Antoine Calloway both surpassed individual milestones in the loss. Brown, who has played as Charleston's defensive specialist the majority of the season, needed one catch to reach the century mark, but tallied two receptions on the night. He reached 100 catches late in the second quarter on a 32-yard strike from Turman to the Macon one-yard line.
In the Swamp Foxes' record book, Brown currently holds Swamp Foxes' team records for interceptions in a career with 21 and total tackles with 135.Calloway, playing in only his second-game back with his former squad, needed four catches to break into the 100-reception career club. He got his four plus one, tallying five receptions for 48 yards in the losing effort.
After one season away from the Lowcountry in Greensboro, Calloway has had an immediate impact, adding more size and speed to the Swamp Foxes offensive arsenal. He currently ranks as the second-best all-time leading receiver, 203 yards behind Reeder for the top spot.
Before the season is through, the Swamp Foxes' career and single-game record books will have to be re-written. To date, four single-game records have been set, with career and individual marks tallying in the teens.
