Norfolk Nighthawks News Release
NORFOLK - Led by a two headed quarterback machine (consisting of Aaron Sparrow and former Orlando Predators' AFL quarterback Chris Wallace), the Norfolk Nighthawks stormed back for a home victory over one of the best teams in the af2, the Albany Conquest. The Nighthawks scored 21 points in the last quarter to help ice the victory for the team in front of 4,235 hometown fans.
The Conquest (9-2) came into the game on a high, winning 7 games in a row. The Conquest, who had the league's second leading and the league's top rated passer in Ryan Vena, ran into a stone wall of Norfolk defenders in the third quarter That quarter was particularly rough. In was one in which players from both sides tackled and punished each other without second thought.
"It was a good victory," said Nighthawks head coach Rick Frazier. "One fan yelled at me after that last Conquest touchdown and I said to them that there are no style points in pro football. Only wins and losses. And we got a win tonight.
The Nighthawks new dual-attack was unexpected by the fans, press and obviously the Conquest. But perhaps it was some of that surprise that helped push the Nighthawks to victory.
"To be honest, I couldn't let a guy like Chris Wallace sign with another team," said Frazier. "That's why we got him and I expect Wallace and Sparrow to handle it as professionals.
Sparrow threw for 153 yards, a touchdown score and ran for two more. Wallace, who went 7-2 last season as the starter for the Nighthawks, tossed three touchdowns and 101 yards.
The Nighthawks (6-5) travel to Greensboro to face the Prowlers next weekend.
