Kelowna Rockets News Release
This past weekend, Rockets alumnus Damon Severson helped Hockey Canada claim a silver medal at the 2022 IIHF World Championship.
Canada forced overtime with a pair of goals in the final 2:12 of the game, but Sakari Manninen dashed Canada's gold medal hopes lifting Finland to a 4-3 win on home ice in Tampere in Sunday's final.
Severson, who was an assistant captain, posted an assist on Canada's opening goal in the gold medal game.
The New Jersey Devils defenceman wore the Maple Leaf for 10 games at the World Championship, posting 8 points (2G, 6A) four penalty minutes and a +9 plus/minus rating.
A total of four Rockets alumni were in action at the Worlds: Severson (Canada), Thomas Raffl (Austria), Calvin Thurkauf (Switzerland) and Jackson Whistle (Great Britain).
Whistle, who spent the 2020-21 season with the Belfast Giants of the EIHL, appeared in two games for Great Britain posting a 0-2-0 record with a 2.40 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.
Thurkauf appeared in six games for the Swiss at the Worlds, posting two goals and a +3 plus/minus rating. The 24-year-old represented Switzerland earlier this year at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Raffl recorded five points (2G, 3A) and four penalty minutes through six games while wearing the C for Austria.
