Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

Dunedin, FL– The Vero Beach Dodgers turned in somewhat of a sloppy performance in the finale of the four-game series in Dunedin Thursday night, going on to lose 7-1 to the Dunedin Blue Jays. After a rain delay of over an hour in the first inning, the Dodgers struck for a 1-0 lead in the third inning on SS Chin-Lung Hu's RBI single, plating DH Trey Dyson. Unfortunately, the lead would not last long as a misplayed fly ball by RF Scott Gillitzer kept the bottom of the third inning alive, with the runner eventually scoring on 1B Vito Chiaravalotti's RBI-double.

With the score tied at 1-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, RHP Casey Hoorelbeke gave up a lead-off homer to the number-nine hitter C Jose Yepez to give the Blue Jays their first lead at 2-1. An error by 3B Andy LaRoche would then help to chase Hoorelbeke from the game and allow Dunedin to score two unearned runs, making it 4-1. The error was one of four Dodger errors on the night. Dunedin tacked on the final three runs in the eighth inning against RHP Rich Bartlett.

RHP Andy Torres, who came in after the first inning and the rain delay, went four innings in relief to pick up the victory for the Blue Jays, allowing just one run. Hoorelbeke, who allowed only two earned runs over 4.1 innings, took the loss.

The Dodgers return home Friday night to begin a crucial four-game series with the Daytona Cubs. LHP Mike Megrew (5-4, 3.36) is expected to come off the disabled list in time to open the series with Daytona. First pitch at Holman Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
