Forward Madison FC Tops FC Tucson 2-1

Forward Madison FC News Release

FMFC gets a much needed home win thanks to some quick offense, including the fastest goal in USL League One history from Paulo Jr. in 41 seconds. As soon as the match began, the Flamingos gained possession and worked the ball wide to J.C. Banks, who played in Brian Bement, who in turn set up Paulo Jr. for an open tap in. Wisconsin native Banks didn't stop his efforts there as he scored the second goal in the 34th minute off a nice run from Paulo Jr. who darted to the right side of goal and gave a quick ball to the cutting Banks. Over the course of the match, it started physical but referee Karen Abt only gave out one yellow card in the match, to Brandon Eaton in the 23rd minute for a high leg on a failed clearance.

This match was also notable for the free tactical play of the entire side, as Brandon Eaton pushed much more forward and J.C. Banks made some nifty passes after returning to the midfield, and both players had chances from distance throughout the match, in addition to the entire forward line of Brian Bement, Paulo Jr., and Don Smart interchanging their positions. With Carter Manley back in the team, every player looked more comfortable in their natural positions, as Eric Leonard could stay at holding midfield.

In the second half, Madison had some chances, but FC Tucson controlled most of the possession throughout the entire match and finished it off with a Kyle Venter goal off a corner in the 90+4th minute. For Madison, the second-half additions of Mason Toye saw Don Smart deputize at left back with Carter Manley off the pitch, and Jiro Barriga Toyama got some time on the wing with Paulo coming off. In the end, Forward Madison earned a huge result to go to 11 points. Though still at the bottom of the table, FMFC have two games in hand on Orlando City B, which are second-from-bottom, and kept FC Tucson, which are in the fourth and final playoff spot, four points away from Forward Madison.
