April 8, 2023 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Forward Madison FC News Release
Forward Madison FC stayed on the road for the second week of their USL League One Season with a matchup against newcomer, Lexington SC. The match took place at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Kentucky.
The match got off to a quick start, with both squads looking to build their way into it. FMFC had a couple of close chances in the first 20 minutes of the match, but were unable to put it in the back of the net. In the 35th minute, Forward Madison goalkeeper Bernd Schipmann came up with a save off a cross into the box by Lexington. The match entered halftime all level at 0-0.
The second half began like the first, with both teams trading chances and possession of the ball. Forward Madison was the more dangerous side, throwing numbers forward into the attacking third trying to break through in the match. In the 59th minute, Jayden Onen caught the Lexington goalkeeper off his line and attempted a chip shot that went off the bar and stayed out. Lexington proceeded to launch an attack of their own, which Schipmann and Jacob Crull were able to snuff out. A late flurry of opportunities for the Flamingos went begging and the match ended tied at 0-0, seeing the Flamingos gain a point on the road.
Next up, Forward Madison heads back home for the first two matches at Breese Stevens Field in 2023. Chicago House AC awaits the Flamingos on Tuesday, April 11th for the 2nd Round of the U.S. Open Cup. Following that match, FMFC will play their Home Opener on Saturday, April 15th at 6pm against Greenville Triumph. Lexington will play host to USL League One 2022 Champions South Georgia Tormenta on Saturday, April 15th.
